Atlas Roof Installation in Fort Lauderdale: What to Know First

Atlas roof installation in Fort Lauderdale typically costs between $9,800 and $22,400 for a full replacement on a standard 1,800 – 2,600 sq ft single-family home, with most jobs completed in 2 to 5 days once materials arrive. We’re an independent Atlas service provider – meaning we install and work on Atlas systems daily, but we’re not authorized by or affiliated with the manufacturer, so our recommendations are based on what actually holds up in South Florida, not a corporate script. If you own a Fort Lauderdale home with an Atlas roof that’s reaching the end of its life, or you’ve already decided Atlas is the brand you want, this page tells you what to expect, what it costs, and how we approach the job. Call (754) 354-1224 for a written quote before you make any decisions.

Atlas Roofing Systems We Install in Fort Lauderdale

Atlas makes several asphalt shingle lines that show up on Fort Lauderdale roofs, and each one behaves a little differently in our climate. Here are the ones we install most often:

  • Atlas Pinnacle Pristine – Atlas’s flagship architectural shingle, rated for 130 mph winds when installed with the right nail pattern and sealant. In Fort Lauderdale, we see these fail most often at the adhesive strip when installers don’t apply enough pressure in cooler months or when a prior contractor reused old flashing. The shingle itself is solid; the installation usually wasn’t.
  • Atlas StormMaster Shake – a heavier, dimensional shingle meant to mimic wood shake. It performs well in wind, but the added weight means the decking and trusses need to be checked more carefully before installation. Older Fort Lauderdale homes built in the 1960s and 70s often have 3/8″ plywood decking that flexes too much for these.
  • Atlas GlassMaster** (now largely phased into Pinnacle lines) – you’ll still find these on homes 15 – 20 years old. The fiberglass mat is strong, but the sealant tends to break down faster in constant UV and salt air. We replace these often in neighborhoods like Victoria Park and Coral Ridge.
  • Atlas AC Foam** systems – rare on residential Fort Lauderdale homes, but we do see them on flat-roof additions and carports. They’re polyiso insulation panels with a membrane over top; the weak point here is almost always ponding water around drains and scuppers.
  • Atlas WeatherMaster** – an entry-level 3-tab shingle. We install these on a budget, but honestly, in Fort Lauderdale we usually steer homeowners toward a Pinnacle architectural line instead. The price difference is modest, and the architectural shingles hold up better to wind-driven rain.

How Atlas Roofs Fail in Fort Lauderdale – and What We Do About It

Every shingle brand has failure patterns, and Atlas is no exception. What matters is knowing which failures are the shingle’s fault, which are the installer’s, and which are just Florida being Florida. Here’s what we see most when we inspect Atlas roofs in Fort Lauderdale:

  • Wind-lift at the rake edge on Atlas Pinnacle shingles. The nailing strip on Pinnacle Pristine is narrower than many installers expect. If the nails are placed even 1/4″ outside the strip, the shingle won’t hold in a tropical storm. We pull back the first course at the gable ends during our inspection because that’s where the lift starts. The fix is renailing with the Atlas-specified 6-nail high-wind pattern, not more sealant.
  • Premature granule loss on south-facing slopes of older Atlas GlassMaster shingles. Fort Lauderdale’s UV load is brutal, and the mineral granules on 15 – 20 year old GlassMaster roofs often loosen first on the south and southwest planes. Homeowners mistake it for “the roof is dying” when sometimes it’s just cosmetic. We test the fiberglass mat for brittleness before recommending anything. If the mat still flexes, a repair may buy you three to five years.
  • Sealant strip failure at the eaves on Atlas StormMaster Shake. The heavier shingles need a clean, dry surface for the thermal seal to activate. If a previous installer laid these over old underlayment that was damp or dirty, the seal never bonds. You’ll see shingles flapping at the bottom edge on an otherwise good roof. The fix is often re-sealing with a proper adhesive and resetting the course, but if it’s widespread, a section replacement is the honest answer.
  • Valley and wall flashing corrosion from salt air, especially east of US-1. Atlas shingles are fine; the accessory metals around them often aren’t. We see galvanized flashing rusted through in 8 – 12 years within a mile and a half of the ocean. We use 24-gauge aluminum or stainless in coastal Fort Lauderdale applications, even when the original was galvanized, because the salt just eats through it.
  • Decking rot around plumbing penetrations on homes with Atlas AC Foam over old wood sheathing. When the membrane around a vent pipe failed at some point, water sat on the wood decking under the foam. By the time the homeowner sees a ceiling stain, the decking is soft. We pull the foam panels, replace the bad plywood, and re-membrane with proper drain slope.

The pattern across all of these: Atlas makes good shingles, but the installation details decide whether you get 10 years or 25 years out of them. That’s why our inspections look at the whole system, not just the surface.

Our Atlas Roof Installation Process

When you call us for Atlas roof installation in Fort Lauderdale, here’s how the job goes, step by step:

  1. 1
The call. A live person answers. You describe the roof, the age, any leaks or damage you’ve noticed. We schedule a walkthrough at a time that works for you. Before any technician arrives, you get their name and photo sent to your phone.
  2. 2
The on-roof inspection. A Mercer technician shows up in a clean uniform with a photo ID badge. They go on the roof, check the decking, flashing, underlayment, and the Atlas shingles themselves. They take photos of anything that matters and walk you through the findings in plain English.
  3. 3
The written price. You get a line-item written quote before any work starts. Not a ballpark, not a “we’ll see what we find.” The number on that page is the number you pay. If we find hidden decking damage during tear-off, we document it, show you, and agree on the change with you before touching it.
  4. 4
Parts and materials. We use Atlas shingles direct from local supply houses, plus the proper Atlas-branded underlayment and hip/ridge accessories where the manufacturer calls for them. On the rare occasion we recommend a quality aftermarket accessory, we tell you why and put it in writing.
  5. 5
The installation. We strip the old roof, inspect and repair the decking as needed, install new underlayment, flash every penetration and transition correctly, then lay the Atlas shingles per the manufacturer’s high-wind spec. Fort Lauderdale requires a re-roof permit on most full replacements; we pull it and call for the inspections.
  6. 6
Cleanup and the guarantee. We magnet-sweep the yard, run a nail rake through the flower beds, and haul everything away. Then we walk the finished roof with you. Every job comes with a written 365-day guarantee. If something isn’t right within a year, we come back and make it right. No charge.

The whole thing usually takes two to five days once we start, depending on the size and pitch of your roof, the condition of the decking, and whether we’re working around a Fort Lauderdale afternoon thunderstorm schedule.

What Atlas Roof Installation Costs in Fort Lauderdale

Real numbers, because you shouldn’t have to call three companies just to get a range:

Scenario Typical Fort Lauderdale Cost
Atlas Pinnacle Pristine architectural shingle, full re-roof, 1,800 – 2,200 sq ft $9,800 – $14,200
Atlas StormMaster Shake, full re-roof, same size $13,500 – $18,600
Atlas WeatherMaster 3-tab, full re-roof, same size $8,200 – $11,400
Decking replacement (per sheet of plywood, as needed) $60 – $90 per sheet added
Atlas roof repair (single leak, flashing replacement, or shingle replacement) $300 – $850

What moves the price: roof size, pitch, number of stories, decking condition, how much flashing needs to be replaced, and whether your home is east of US-1 (coastal salt exposure means we upgrade the metals). What doesn’t move the price: surprise add-ons. The written quote is the price. Call (754) 354-1224 for your exact number – estimates are free, and there’s no obligation.

Why Fort Lauderdale Homeowners Call Mercer Roofing Co Fort Lauderdale for Atlas Work

There are plenty of roofers in Broward County who can buy a pallet of Atlas shingles and nail them down. What’s harder to find is a company that treats the whole thing like your home, not a job site. Before our technician even pulls up, you know their name and what they look like. They badge in with a photo ID at the door. And the price is in writing before a single nail is driven. That’s the Threshold Standard, and every Mercer Roofing Co location is held to it – background-checked, identity-verified, uniformed technicians on every visit.

Grant Whitlock leads the Fort Lauderdale team. Grant came up through the construction technology program at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and has spent more than two decades on real roofs. He’ll tell you straight if an Atlas roof can be repaired for another few years or if you’re better off budgeting for a full replacement – and he’ll put the numbers in writing either way. We also work with GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed, so if Atlas isn’t the right fit for your home’s specific situation, we’ll say so and show you why.

A good roof shouldn’t be something you think about – that means we did our job right.
